National Museum of African American History & Culture

A modern take on museum storytelling
Redesigning NMAAHC’s Community Newsletters
We partnered with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) to reimagine Curated for Community—the museum’s quarterly newsletter that highlights recent exhibitions, programs, and events. As the only national museum dedicated exclusively to documenting African American life, history, and culture, NMAAHC sought a modern, clean, and welcoming design that aligned seamlessly with their updated brand identity while remaining accessible in both print and digital formats. From concept to execution, we crafted a refined eight-page publication that balances clarity and storytelling, using thoughtful layouts and custom infographics to present information in an engaging, easy-to-navigate way—ensuring the museum’s voice, mission, and community remain front and center.

A quarterly publication reimagined
Designing a Voice for History & Culture
From the initial concept through final production, we approached the newsletter with a focus on clarity, cohesion, and storytelling. We began by developing multiple design directions rooted in NMAAHC’s updated brand, then refined the selected concept into a flexible layout system that could adapt across both print and digital formats. Each page was thoughtfully designed to guide readers through the content with clean typography, balanced pacing, and custom infographics that elevate key information. The final result is a polished, accessible publication that translates seamlessly across platforms while reinforcing the museum’s mission and engaging its diverse community.
